ABOUT THE ROLE
As part of the SHAPE Capital team, you will be responsible for full cycle accounting of SHAPE Capital and its fund portfolio. You will play a key role in providing timely and accurate financial information to management and partners. You will build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to have a full understanding, ownership, and accountability of the portfolio.
The successful candidate will report to the Director of Corporate Accounting and will work closely with the SHAPE Capital and corporate accounting teams.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and reports to key stakeholders
- Key contributor to the monthly loan funding process, including managing monthly capital calls and funding to borrowers
- Preparation of investment return calculations and investor statements
- Preparation of analysis for non-recurring or complex transactions
- Review loan and other related legal agreements to assess accounting impact
- Review of the annual tax returns
- Key liaison with external auditors and preparation of audit support
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to gather and liaise with team members in the preparation of quarterly and annual reports to key stakeholders
- Ability to understand and interpret accounting standards and experience in the preparation of accounting memos to support new or complex transactions
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task working with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment
- Passionate about continuous improvement with experience in process improvement
- Knowledge and interest in the real estate and real estate lending industry
- Collaborative and communicative with excellent relationship building skills
- Strong ability to adhere to deadlines under pressure. Proactive, dependable and solutions oriented
Required Training and Experience
- Qualified CPA or 3-4 years of relevant experience in a similar role, with an understanding of full cycle accounting and a working knowledge of IFRS
- Experience with preparing or auditing financial statements, including note disclosures
- Proficient with using Excel and Microsoft Office
- Systems savvy with the ability to assess current usage of systems and identify areas of opportunity to optimize and improve said usage. Experience using Yardi is an asset.
