ABOUT THE ROLE

The Accounting Manager, IPP (Income Producing Properties) will manage full cycle reporting, maintain and improve processes and controls as well as support a team of accounting professionals working on a growing portfolio of commercial and rental properties. This individual will be an integral part of the team and should be detail-oriented, self-motivated and have the desire to work with a dynamic and fast paced Head Office team.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting function within the assigned portfolio
  • Manage day to day activities of a team of property accountants and a portfolio of properties
  • Responsible for timely and accurate completion of annual, quarterly and monthly activities, by reviewing, providing feedback, being hands on when necessary, on the following:
    • Monthly close and reports
    • Quarterly reports
    • Annual budgets
    • Annual CAM reconciliations billings
    • Annual Financial Statements in accordance with IFRS and ASPE
  • Ensure adherence to internal processes and accounting policies. Maintain control of data that builds our financial reporting
  • Prepares reports to senior management with insightful analysis of financial results
  • Provide analysis and recommendations on issues as they pertain to accounting or have impact on financial performance of the portfolio
  • Act as key liaison with internal teams (operations, construction, leasing, finance, etc.) to translate property level actions into accurate financial results
  • Assists in annual audits, including coordination with external auditors, drafting memos, ensuring PBCs provided are appropriate and timely
  • Take on special projects and analysis as required
  • Contribute to improvements in departmental processes, internal control and team development
  • Provide ongoing guidance and training to team members
  • Monitor team performance and provide feedback to drive improvement and administering performance evaluations
  • Involved in hiring and onboarding of new team members, when necessary
  • Support IPP Finance and Accounting teams with special projects and ad-hoc analysis
  • Other ad hoc duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Possess strong organizational, time management and project management skills with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines under pressure while taking responsibility for all tasks assigned
  • Equally effective at working in the details as well as stepping back and understanding the strategic impact on the organization
  • Positive, collaborative and team oriented with excellent relationship building skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders
  • Motivated and has ability to learn quickly. Proactive, dependable and solutions oriented
  • Works with a sense of urgency and curiosity

Required Training and Experience

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA)
  • 4+ years of managing full cycle accounting/financial reporting for multiple entities
  • 2+ years in a role managing a team
  • Experience with property accounting, property management or real estate is an asset
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft office applications, particularly Excel
  • Experience with Yardi Voyager an asset

Working Conditions

Based at our corporate office, located in Downtown Vancouver, the successful candidate may expect a comfortable and collaborative work environment in a modern office setting. Flexibility to work from home on a part-time basis will also be provided.

Salary Range: $100-120k/year
