ABOUT THE ROLE
This position will be with the SHAPE Capital team.
The Associate, Loan Administration + Compliance role will be responsible for the administration of SHAPE Capital’s loan portfolio, including loan due diligence, closing, compliance, ongoing servicing and monitoring. The ideal candidate will clearly and effectively manage multiple processes to ensure that the loans in the portfolio and in the pipeline are adequately managed and tracked. In addition, the role will have the opportunity to work with the origination team with market research and underwriting.
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Create and maintain internal reports detailing the status of loans in closing and help manage the loan closing and funding process, including the following:
- Closing Agendas
- Due Diligence Checklists
- Assist originators in satisfying conditions precedent to funding
- Liaise with third party consultants and review third party reports (appraisal reports, environmental reports, building condition reports, cost consultant reports, etc.) to ensure they are satisfactory
- Liaise with lawyers to coordinate closing due diligence
- Liaise with capital partners to coordinate loan closing and funding
- Perform site inspections and interviews
- Review AML / KYC due diligence documents to ensure proper documentation is obtained
- Maintain and review security documents and closing files for each loan in the portfolio
- Assist with processing construction draws and disbursements
- Assist with processing monthly interest payments
- Prepare monthly loan statements and payout statements
- Maintain mortgage investments in Yardi’s debt management software
- Maintain and distribute portfolio monitoring reports
- Manage the reporting requirements for each loan, including following up on financial reporting, property tax payments, and insurance renewals as required
- Work closely with accounting team to ensure accurate reporting of mortgage investments
- Assist with ad-hoc client and capital partner requests as needed
- Assist with market research and underwriting for annual reviews and credit memos
- Assist with preparing presentations
- Identify gaps and propose solutions to improve current processes

Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of commercial real estate, lending, and mortgage investments as it applies to financial institutions and/or private mortgage lenders
- Ability to exercise judgement, initiative and discretion
- Strong attention to detail, self-motivated, and ability to work independently
- Capable of handling multiple tasks with multiple projects and timelines
- Critical thinking and decision-making skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, and Word)
- Experience with Yardi debt management software is an asset
- Experience with Power BI is an asset
Required Training and Experience
- The ideal candidate will have experience in commercial real estate loan administration and servicing, with experience reviewing legal documents for mortgage security and conducting AML / KYC compliance. Experience with commercial real estate loan underwriting would be preferred but not required for this role.
- Expertise in reviewing loan documentation for the following real estate loan types:
- Land loans
- Construction Loans
- Bridge and Inventory Loans
- Two (2) to five (5) years of loan underwriting, administration, or servicing in a commercial real estate lending or commercial banking environment is required
- University degree and requisite work experience is required
